Suggest more announcement lists

Postby Aaron Freimark » Thu May 27, 2010 1:00 am

Nearly every organization in the area has a public E-mail list for announcements. We're ambitiously attempting to gather them all here the Highlands Chain. I hope the utility is clear.

Please respond to this thread to suggest lists to add. Try to include an address (E-mail or web) for subscribing. Thank you!

I suggest adding the calendar for the West Point Concert Band and Jazz Knights concerts. They are free!

Here is a link for an iCal subscription:

How do you add an event to the calendar? I'd like to add Music Tracks at the Depot on Saturday June 12th.

Do you know if Music Tracks has a google calendar set up? If so, send us the address of the calendar and we can add it. If not, if you'd like to create one and are willing to manage it, we'd love to add that. If not, let us know and we'll see if we can find someone to manage a music calendar. Any volunteers?

After an all-nighter, we have two new features. First, announcement lists will use HTML for prettier announcements. Second, we can now subscribe to and repost RSS feeds. The first two are Music in Cold Spring and the North Highlands Fire Company. Please suggest more!

Anyone know how to get news from the local schools? Haldane and GUFS both have broken RSS feeds, and PV doesn't even have that.

Are there email lists for announcements?

Haldane occasionally sends out an announcement via e-mail, but these are special announcements, not regular updates. I receive the Upcoming Events feed in my Google reader (and in my iCal, too!) and the feed appears to be working for me. It is not always up-to-date, and there are multiple feeds and layers of calendars on the school website, so I can imagine that you have some difficulties. Here is the link I use:

http://www.haldaneschool.org/upcomingEventsRss.ashx?id=643075da-161d-4735-8bbe-4d1a77302149

You may ask to be included in the AlertNow e-mail notifications, but I don't know if they will agree unless you have a child in the school.

Unfortunately, an RSS feed is a poor way to get events. Notice how the event date is in the title, but the date on the entry is always today. If there's an iCal feed then I can pipe it in, but I couldn't find one.

The RSS feed for announcements is also really broken. But maybe I can work around that.
