Putnam Valley Volunteer Ambulance Corps 2008 EMS Agency of the Year

Postby Robotic Autoposter » Sat Jun 06, 2009 1:45 am

The Putnam Valley Volunteer Ambulance Corps was proudly recognized as the 2008 EMS Agency of the Year by the Putnam County EMS Council. This award was presented to Sheryl Luongo, Captain of the PVVAC by Robert Cuomo, Director, Emergency Medical Services Putnam County Bureau of Emergency Services and our own Michael Moculski, Putnam County EMS Council President and 2nd Lieutenant of the PVVAC. The award ceremony took place at the Centennial Golf Club in Carmel on May 3, 2009. This prestigious award is in recognition of the tireless dedication of the volunteer members of the PVVAC in the nearly perfect record for covering the calls in Putnam Valley and also helping out a number of other agencies by covering many mutual aid calls to nearby towns. We are also very fortunate to have an extremely dedicated 1st Lieutenant, Don Graesser, who last year, personally trained over 500 individuals; many from our community at large. Don recently reached a milestone by surpassing a record of covering over 5,000 calls for the PVVAC and has many thousands more in other communities. Another highlight for the PVVAC is the large contingent of dedicated members of our youth corps.

Putnam Valley Volunteer Ambulance Youth Corps

Postby Robotic Autoposter » Thu Nov 20, 2008 11:20 am

The PVVA Youth Corps participated in the Putnam Valley Middle School Wellness Fair, Thursday, November 13th. They featured blood pressure readings and conducted CPR hands-on demonstrations. As members of the Youth Corps, they participate in first aid and safety training and also get to ride as a "crew" member once they turn 16. The Youth Corps advisors Debbie Petranchik and Kathy VanHorn noted that the members also have the opportunity to develop leadership skills by holding officer positions. In addition to the training they receive, they also have a full agenda of fun and team building activities. They have an upcoming cookie baking party and are planning winter and summer trips. Comments from some of the members as to: "Why I joined the Youth Corps?" Frannie Sills the 1st Lt. and one of the senior members noted that the Corps helps students develop leadership skills and it's also an opportunity to meet new friends. Martha Lua has an interest in medicine. Amy Cobb would like to be a nurse and the corps offers an opportunity for more social activities. Jim Hertzel and Kristen Weeks like the idea of doing community service and helping others. To join the Youth Corps teenagers must be 13 years of age. Applicants do not require previous first aid or CPR experience. If you are a Putnam Valley resident and have an interest in joining, you can contact one of the advisors at 845-526-3119.
