- 1778 - the Highlands Chain "is created by Americans to stop the English communicating. (via the Hudson river)"
- 1993 - Englishman Richard Bates founds the Highlands Chain "to help Americans in Philipstown communicate (online)"
- November, 2009 - Ray Fusco creates the Philipstown Current, an inspiration for the current Chain. Unfortunately, the site host decides to begin charging fees beginning July 2010, so a new solution must be found.
- May 23, 2010 - After back-to-back allnighters, we launch the Highlands Chain.
- May 31 - Rotating pictures on the top of each page. Submit your own!
- June 2 - Embed MP3s into your posts.
- June 4 - Attach a mugshot to your profile.
- June 8 - Daily or weekly E-mail Digests.
- June 11 - Announcements can now arrive via RSS feeds and HTML E-mail. We show prettier Addresses for our posts, with more text and less computer code.
- June 14 - A little redesign of the home page. More icons and less text. The events calendar includes the weather forecast, via Weather Underground. We show a box for "Now Playing on Cold Spring Radio." Recent Announcements have been divorced from Recent Discussion.
- June 15 - Added Haldane and GUFS calendars on the events page, and some calendars now have helpful labels. Also added school announcements as well as Chapel of Our Lady Restoration and First Presbyterian Church of Philipstown and Cold Spring Fire Company No. 1.
- June 18 - There's now a "Recent Videos" section on the home page, and temperatures (air and river) too.
- June 22 - Added a front page widget for upcoming Metro North trains.
