Reminder: KidStuff Coupon Books deadline is 10/31. If you'd like to keep your book, please send in payment. If not, return your book via your child's backpack by Monday 10/31.

Donations of Halloween candy for Parrott Street are still needed! Please drop off a bag of individually-wrapped candy (nut-free is best) in donation boxes located at the Foodtown exit and the porch at 25 Mountain Ave - across from the elementary driveway.

Your Amazon.com purchases can support the Haldane PTA! Just be sure to first enter the Amazon site via the widget link on our PTA page so that 4-8.5% of your purchases will go to Haldane. Forward the link to family and friends before the holiday shopping season!

Mark your calendars for this panel discussion, intended to educate parents on the issue of bullying before it becomes a legal matter.

Brent Harrington, Principal, Haldane Elementary & Middle School
Renee Curry, Haldane School social worker
James Reitz, Putnam County Court Judge
Joseph DeMarzo, Director, Putnam County Youth Bureau

Issues to be addressed include monitoring your child’s social networking site; practical advice for parents on how to respond to bullying issues, school prevention programs and procedures, and recognizing serious mental health risk factors.

This panel discussion will be followed by a Q & Q forum on bullying - in school, on school grounds, and online - and what our community can do to prevent it. Mark your calendar - don't miss this important event for parents and families.


BARNES & NOBLE PJ PARTY + BOOKFAIR FRIDAY 11/18 5-8 PM
This annual event is back and better than ever! Upstairs, Principal Harrington and other special guests read favorite books for younger students (in their PJs!). Musical performances, book signings, art exhibitions, a Nook demo, and raffles will be featured throughout the evening at the Poughkeepsie store. Get your holiday shopping done early and have a great time doing it! 15% of all your in-store and online purchases support the PTA. More info to come.

Each year, generous Parrott Street residents welcome hundreds of trick-or-treaters. The PTA is once again collecting donations of candy to help lighten their load a little. Please donate a bag or two of individually-wrapped candy (nut-free treats are safest) for Parrott Street. Drop off your donations in the marked boxes at the Foodtown exit, and on the porch at 25 Mountain Avenue (across from the elementary roadway). Thank you!

Check out the KidStuff coupon books that went home in elementary backpacks this week. They feature hundreds of coupons for purchases from Ikea, Sears, SplashDown Beach, ShopRite, Children's Place, movies, restaurants, activities, and many more retailers in the region. Please consider purchasing your book for $25. Half of that goes straight to the PTA to support our programs and activities. (Coupons from last year's books expire at the end of 2011, so use 'em up and get a new book for 2012!) Thanks.

Eco-Kids Registration Extended

to Friday 9/30 (for grades 3-5 only)

Registration for the fall Eco-Kids session has been extended for grades 3-5 until this Friday 9/30! To register, complete the form (download it here) and submit with payment to the Haldane PTA Mailbox. Scholarships available; program begins week of 10/5.

Eco-Kids discover the wonders of nature in Haldane’s backyard. Led by environmental educator Pete Salmansohn, this group will explore the trails and woods around James Pond and experience the change of seasons out of doors. 6 sessions Wednesdays 3:10-4:30 beginning 10/5. Parents welcome on hikes. Students should bring their own snacks; water provided.

EcoKids Fall Registration Due 9/23

EcoKids discover the wonders of nature in Haldane’s backyard. Led by environmental educators Pete Salmansohn and Cathy Bakker, this group will explore the trails and woods around James Pond and experience the change of seasons out of doors.

To participate, you must complete the registration form available on the PTA website. (Forms will also be sent via AlertNow). Return completed forms with $40 fee to the PTA mailbox by Friday Sept. 23.

Now Open

Registration has begun for our Fall after-school Enrichment programs, which include sports, chess, drama, music, and language instruction for grades 1-5. Forms were sent home in your child's backpack this week. Information and schedules are also available on the website. Completed registration forms and payment are due in the PTA mailbox by 3 pm on Friday September 23rd.

Fall Book Fair

Support your student's love of reading and the PTA! Shop the Scholastic Book Fair in the Elementary Library starting at 3 pm each day this week. (Children will visit the book fair twice with their classes.) Proceeds from your purchases support the PTA. Please consider donating a book to your child's classroom library too.

Support the PTA and its programs when you buy fall bulbs from Flower Power. The bulbs are beautiful, guaranteed bloomers, and are delivered direct to you.
